Non-traditional Labor Day Dinner

     Labor Day is the last hurrah of summer time fun; typically filled with a day of grilling hamburgers and hot dogs while soaking up the last few rays of sunshine. This year, a backyard BBQ just wasn't in the cards for me.

     My grandparents own a summer cottage in Fairhaven, MA, right on the beach. It's pretty much a 15/20 minute drive to the nearest shops and restaurants; and even though normally, I never want to leave my spot on the beach for anything-one of those restaurants is totally worth it.

     The Pasta House on Alden St. right off the highway in Fairhaven is beyond yummy! I was going to take a picture of my Eggplant Parmesan to show all of my fellow bloggers (read non-existent followers) but I was already chowing down before I realized I had meant to take out my camera first. Eggplant is my favorite food of all time, so it was no wonder I was so quick to dive into another rendition of my favorite comfort food. But I'll be back soon, so I'll be sure to photograph generously then. They're all about Italian cuisine, and boy are they good at it, even their house salad has pasta on it, how can you go wrong!?

First day of Class

Today was my first day of sophomore year at Roger Williams; at least now I seem like a veteran to all of the incoming freshman. Not much has changed on campus over the summer, except some additions and modifications to buildings and sidewalks. One thing that I am happy to say has not changed is the food in the Upper Commons (aka the cafeteria) we are catered by Bon Appetit so we get the best of the best! We have a salad bar, stacks (sandwiches), grill (hamburgers...stuff like that), international cuisine (stir-fry it up here), cucina (pizza and pasta), and classics (the daily specials). Of course we have desserts like ice cream and homemade apple crisp too. I'm a commuter so I don't have a meal plan, but I get up there every chance I get, we're ranked the 8th best cafeteria in New England for private universities, but we should really be in the top five.

Plus Bon Appetit every year does a sustainability project, trying to get students to cut down on how much food they waste and throw away. You know, reducing the carbon footprint and all that jazz. A group on campus throws together an Eat Local-Farmer's Market too. RWU is all about saving the planet through delicious food munchin', who knew helping out the environment could taste so good?

Camping Munchies

Just got back from almost a week of camping, and boy does all that tent pitching and swimming down river make you hungry! I spent Thursday through Monday in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with my boyfriend's family for some good ole' R&R. My contribution for the trip was homemade trail mix and chocolate chip cookies. (Recipes are to follow don't you worry.) We had the typical hamburgers, hot dogs, steak and marshmallows over the fire, but the yummiest meal I had on the trip was probably breakfast Saturday morning. His parent's whipped up eggs over-easy with bacon and toast all roasted to perfection over the campfire. This morning's cereal just didn't compare after that =(


Trail-mix Recipe

(The amounts of the following ingredients are up to your discretion; it all comes down to preference. I added more M&Ms, almonds, and raisins because they are my favorite trail-mix essentials)
Dried pineapple
Dried cranberries
Dried blueberries
Raisins
Natural, unsalted almonds
Honey-roasted peanuts
Natural, unsalted walnuts
Dark chocolate M&Ms
Toss all ingredients well in a large Ziploc storage bag, seal tight for optimum freshness!

My First Official Blog Post!

Hello fellow bloggers,
    I decided to start a blog so I could share my yummy findings (from many parts of New England, and the world) as well as my own concoctions that I whip up, with other foodies like me! I am a total amateur when it comes to blogging, which I hope isn’t too obvious (I promise I’ll improve as I go), but that won’t stop me from spreading deliciousness! I hope to post lots of pictures and recipes so all of you can enjoy some of the tasty food that I have experienced, and maybe even recreate it for yourselves. I am no connoisseur when it comes to food; all I know is that I love the experience that food has always given me, both in the creation and consumption of it. Maybe my love for the savory to the sweet will inspire others to take their taste buds on an adventure.
